Clever Texting

CleverTexting is a new texting technology that predicts letters as you type, but unlike it's predecessors, it is based on the statistical nature of a language therefore, it does not require a dictionary. That means that the download is compact (about 10kg) and it's easy to install on any phone that supports java. It provides a smoother, seamless typing experience using dynamic key assignment so users can experience faster typing, no interventions, no multitaps, and no mode changes. It's absolutely free so check it out...

Blogity-Blog

I have been too busy to blog. I suck. You get booby prize:

No seriously... I've been sitting in front of my computer for a few consecutive hours tonight, wanting to blog all about my super-exciting-rock-star-month but I've been dealing with Librarian Chick instead. I finally made the switch to PBwiki 2.0 and while I'm getting used to the new digs, I've had a lot of formatting issues, especially with removing and re-embedding java script plugins and hacks.

So yeah, this month has been a doozy. Details at 11:00.

Five for Fri - Goodbye, Mixwit

Mixtape from http://favtape.com/sya/12-19-08

I have been using Mixwit to create the Five for Friday mixtapes but they've recently announced that they are in between a rock and a hard place and after December, they will no longer exist. Guess I'll be using Favtape from now on.

Two for Tuesday - Butterscotch Tutorials

Yeah, yeah, I know I haven't posted much in the last... two weeks! Wow, has it really been two weeks already? Life has taken a few fun and exciting turns this month, and with the holiday season quickly approaching, I don't know when I'll have time to post again soon. Yet, I wanted to post something, just so you know I'm still alive, so here are two quick tutorial videos I did for Butterscotch that show some basic importing and template features in Google Docs. The next couple months will be a lot of fun as we continue to add much more content to the site.

Two for Tuesday - The Romantics

Ever hear of a little band from Detroit called The Romantics? Hear either of these songs just once and they'll be stuck in your head for days, maybe weeks! Just wait... later on tomorrow night sometime after you mistakenly think you've finally exorcised the beast, you'll start singing again out of the clear blue and then you'll shake your fists at me.

Can you believe they are still touring together?

The Big Lebowski

Those of you who are close friends and family have heard me mention the video tutorials I've been doing lately for the top-secret project Tucows would be launching. Well, today is the big day! I'm proud to announce the public beta launch of the tech-tasty, download-delicious, butteriffic butterscotch!

butterscotch.com is an exciting new technology video content site aimed at technology enthusiasts. Think HGTV meets TechTV for people that love technology, but don't consider themselves geeks. The site will incorporate the Tucows.com file library, bringing in its 10 million unique monthly visitors to the new brand.

butterscotch also offers step-by-step video tutorials, and that's where I come in. Our tutorials offer computer tips and tricks explained in plain English, without all the jargon, so they are easy to follow along with. Short, sweet and to the point, we offer practical advice you can start using right away to save time, money and headaches. Our goal is to help you get the most out of your computer and gadgets.

So check it out and let me know what you think! Remember, it's still in beta; I hear word of official launch after the new year. We'll be adding much more content in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned!

Crustless Spinach and Broccoli Quiche

I was at a friends baby shower recently and my taste buds fell in lust with the mini-muffin-pan quiches the hostesses served. Not only were they cute as heck, but delicious to boot. It was then that I realized I'd never attempted to make a quiche myself. Well, that just had to be remedied!

Here is a recipe that is simple, quick, and yumz. You don't even have to make a pie crust.

You'll need:
1 Tbs. Vegetable oil
1/2 small onion (I chopped up a few slices from a large white)
1 10 oz. pkg of frozen spinach thawed and drained
OR 8 cups fresh spinach, chopped
Florets of half a head of broccoli, chopped or broken
5 eggs
3 cups shredded cheese (like sharp cheddar, swiss, ricotta, feta or mozzarella)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. black pepper

Preheat oven to 350°
Lightly grease 9" pie pan or muffin tin

Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Add chopped onions and cook until soft.
Stir in spinach and broccoli. Cook until excess moisture has evaporated.

In a large bowl, beat the eggs, then combine the cheese, salt and pepper.
Add the spinach mixture and stir.
Scoop into pan.

Bake in preheated oven until eggs have set, aprox. 30 - 35 minutes.
Cool 10 minutes before serving.
Refrigerate leftovers.

Notes:
The great thing about quiche is that you can mix it up and have fun with it. I know some people who like ham or bacon in their quiche. I'm going to keep experimenting with different cheeses and vegetables like zucchini, garlic and green pepper. I've also got some great crust recipes lined up; one is a pâte brisée and the other is whole wheat.

If you think that sounds yummy, check out this recipe I found on the Savory Notebook that has you roll out pieces of bread and press them into the bottoms of muffin tins to form the crust. Great idea!

Two for Tuesday - Today's Tom Sawyer

Is it just me or is this song making some kind of huge come back? I hear it all the time now — on that episode of Chuck, they play it on the radio all the damn time, Rush even played it live on the Colbert Report!

At the risk of possibly offending all you hardcore Rush fans, I didn't like this song much and I'd probably still go on not liking it except that I saw it performed once at a caberet and, what can I say? It rocked! I was so mesmerized, I think I heard the lyrics for the very first time and fell. in. love.
I've had it stuck in my head for a week now.

"No, his mind is not for rent
To any God or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes aren't permanent,
But change is!"

Happy Halloween!

News Alert: Ousting Don the Con

Earlier this afternoon, the Committee for a Better Flint (CBF) held a news conference at their campaign headquarters to announce intentions to submit to the Genesee County Clerk the many hundreds of petitions and thousands of signatures seeking the recall and removal from office of Flint's mayor, Donald J. Williamson. The announcement was the culmination of months of hard work and the involvement of many dedicated people in the city of Flint.

"Despite the obstacles and obvious constraints recently orchestrated by Don Williamson and his administration, we remain confident the voters of Flint will be afforded their legal right to vote on the removal from office of Mayor Williamson." - CBF News Release

More on the recall here and here via The Flint Journal, including this little laughable gem...

""I feel extremely positive that they won't recall me because of all of the work I have done for the great citizens of the city of Flint," said Williamson, who takes part of the credit for downtown revitalization."

Five for Cheeba

MixwitMixwit make a mixtapeMixwit mixtapes

Cheeba was my favorite, not only because he was strong, beautiful and sleek, but because he had such personality. He was loud and outspoken, pushy, picky, needy, clever, and one hell of an escape artist. He loved to be outside but he suffered with allergies so we took great pains to keep him inside. He also had a great sense of humor. He loved everyone who came into our home, but after making a new friend, he'd always come right back to let me know I had the best lap of all. He was spoiled and loved, cuddled and babied. Sadly, he died Monday evening of lymphoma. We're all very heart broken. Out of habit, I still rush at the front door, worried he'll dart out. And if I see a shadow or a shoe on the floor, for a moment my mind is tricked into thinking it's him laying there. He's terribly terribly missed. That's why this week, the Five for Fri. is in memory of our dear Cheebita Weebita aka Cheeba Kittycaticus aka Brat Cat, aka Bobo.

Goodbye old friend.
